So, we have a whole day planned. 7 am eastern is awfully early, but we make our way To the Metro.
Which are surprisingly nicer than the Chicago El stops.
We have a 20 minute commute to the Downtown DC area. Once we get there the first thing we go to is the Washington phalace, I mean monument.
Julie has a grip on the situation.
At the base of the Washington monument before you get to the reflecting pool and Lincoln memorial, there is a cool WW2 monument that G Dubya had built in 2004. It was a pretty cool addition to the mall area.
Before we got to the Lincoln memorial we walked through the Korean war memorial which was pretty cool, I had not seen it before and/or don't remember seeing it on my last trip 12 years ago.
There is a major renovation of the area going on while we are at the Lincoln memorial so we didn't get to see the cool reflecting pool in all it's glory. But we got the idea with the puddle that was there.
Lincoln Memorial is bigger than I remember. It was a nice day.
Our next stop was the Vietnam memorial. Lots and lot of names. What an interesting piece of US history.
As we are walking to the White House we come across this cool looking statue thing. Not really sure what it is and didn't take the time to find a plaque that said. But took a picture anyway.
Well, we were trying to get to the White House and every street was blocked off. We couldn't even see it. Then we hear sirens going crazy and see a motorcade whiz by. There goes the president. Pretty cool scene, as he was speaking across town at the Chamber of Commerce.
We went to lunch and waited while all the excitement was going on and then we could go look at his crib.
It was smaller than what Julie had thought. Not as pretty as it is February but still cool.
The first dog was out walking in the back but we couldn't get a picture.
We also saw a gray squirrel that was as friendly as a homeless person.
Next step was the Smithsonian national Museum of American History. I will post those pictures later.
We were there for almost 1.5 hours and have to post this picture now.
Then we walked a few blocks to the Smithsonian National Air and Space museum. It was not as cool, but pretty awesome. And again I will make a blog post inside the museums on a future day, but will leave one of each.
